This is the only way to make grape jelly! I've always used the boil and squish method. The boiling part is a cinch, but the squishing part is a pain and makes a really big mess. This unit isn't built to withstand a lot of physical abuse, it can dent and bend easily (which is why I gave it only four stars) but it does the job and is a decent price. If you are looking for a simple juicer, this is it. Just be sure to take good care of it and store it where it won't get banged around.

This an absolutely marvelous product for really basic preserving & steaming.
BUT-
the clamp needs improvement.
I'm trying to access the maker to see if the clamp has been improved, but googling "back to basics steam juicer" only brings up sellers.

I borrowed this product from a neighbor to juice plums. It worked very well and produced 6 quart or so each batch. I was expecting the juice to be watered down due to the steam. It turned out that I still needed to add about an equal amount of water to the juice to make it less thick and syrupy. I am now looking to purchase one. I an looking for a stainless steel one, but have noticed a major detail that this one offers that might be overlooked. The design of this one is such that the base fits inside the s

This juicer is perfect for making grape juice to can, make jelly or just to drink. I got this very quickly and I bought two. One for myself and one for my sister. She has an old one my grandmother used to own, but we find it much faster to use 3 or 4 juicers at once to do a big job. My only issue with the juicer was that the clamp was difficult to squeeze so often and you have to pinch the tube with just the right part of the clamp so it doesn't leak. We found that a hemostat clam works just perfect in

Product works great. Had a dent on the bottom at delivery. Is it a 2nd & I wasn't told? Dent doesn't affect usage, but it does make product a 2nd& there should be discounts for 2nds.
Other than that one flaw, I LOVE it!!!

p.s. All SJs come w/ this clip on the hose that you require some hefty arms to use. Be careful w/ it. I got some really hot juice on my foot. Very minor burn, but had to wash the pants. There's no way around that, except to be really careful. If the clamp is go

This steam juicer worked well to remove the juice from elderberries for making jelly. The directions said that after the water started boiling it would take about 1 hour to remove the juice. It actually took about 2 hours to remove all the juice from 2-plus quarts of berries but there was no need to strain the juice from the berries as is done when the berries are cooked in water. One problem that could arise is the amount of clearance between the juicer lid and the bottom of the cabinet or microwave whe

This steam juicer does a good job, however I feel it is a bit over priced for what it is made of. I do like the way it cans juice in mason jars with no extra work. Good product overall for a beginner juicer.

We only use a juicer a couple of times a year (when the cherries and plums are ripe). In the past we've borrowed one from a friend but decided to buy our own. When I saw the price of this aluminum model I was concerned that it might not be as good as the more expensive stainless steel models. And maybe it's not, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with this one. You throw the washed fruit in, boil the water for the correct time and the hot juice comes out as it is supposed to. It's very simple to use

I was very surprised that I did not have to stem the grapes. THis is great. My grandmother usedto make grape juice and know I found how she used to do it. Thanks for the memories. Having bought a place that has a large vineyard it is good to know that I can give my kids the same great taste.

This product is the best purchase I've made in a very long time! I start steaming right after work and then go for my walk. When I get home my juice is done and I can start making jelly right away! I've told everyone I know how wonderful this is. A "MUST HAVE" for jelly makers. Wish I had this years ago.

I beg to differ! With this clever contraption you will be making juice in a snap! Once you use this steamer you will never go back to the daunting task of peeling and squeezing every little grape, LOL (laugh out loud).
Just rinse the grapes, leave them on the stems and into the strainer they go. Before you know it you have beautiful, great tasting grape juice just like Welchs does it. Its perfect for jelly or to just drink and enjoy!
I rate this Juicer 5 star, and Im sure you will too!

Used this for some conchord grapes to make juice and then from there to make jelly. Amazing product. Creates very pure juice without any of the seeds or pulp. A little large so wouldn't fit on my double oven with range because the top oven was in the way. Works great outside on a BBQ with a side burner. An excellent way to get more out of your extra produce in the summer!

this is a wonderful product. for years we cooked fruit and cheese cloth extracted the juice, getting much more pulp than needed. the steam cooker steams the clear pure juice, if you want pulp just stir while in the extraction mode. you get much more juice than an old traditional method, little preparation, and very fast. if you are a jelly, jam, preserve maker of just about any fruit this is a labor saver , like nobody's business. great buy, in a long time.

I made this purchase off from a suggestion from a colleague that has been using one for years. My initial need was to make hard cider and I did not have access to a cider press and the stuff you buy in the store is loaded with preservative. In less than an hour I was able to turn 2 pecks of apples into juice and I ran the pulp through a food mill to make apple sauce for my self and my 7 month old baby. Very little prep is needed, just wash your produce and if it is large cut it in half or quarters and toss it in the basket. The juice from the unit rivaled that of freshly pressed and it is already pasturized. I can't wait to try it out on other seasonal produce. I plan on purchasing 2 more for my mother and brother that make wine. I brew beer and will use it for adjunts to my seasonal ales.

I was very happy to have received this steam cooker! I had many grapes that I wanted to juice and the product worked very well. I also tried apples and was not quite a happy with the end product. I look forward to using this product next summer with currants, and other berries. You do have to be very careful because the juice is extremely hot and I needed to get some special gloves to hold the jars while I was working. If you have a garden, or just like to make your own basic food, you will be pleased with this product.

I made apricot juice with this and plum juice. the whole house smelledf wonderful while doing it, plus it saves a lot of time from the old "boil and strain" method. IT did take a little longer than the instructions said, but that may be because I used a lot of fruit, or because of difference in altitides. This is a MUST for canning juice.
