Only about 6% of people consume their recommended
daily amount of vegetables while about 8% obtain their recommended
daily amount of fruit. It is pretty well understood that eating fruits and vegetables is key to a healthier life and that practically everyone needs to consume more of them. In fact, a recent survey by Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) showed that 54% and 63% of people believed that they were eating too few fruits and vegetables. PBH, a non-profit fruit and vegetable education foundation, asked people why it is difficult to include more fruits and vegetables in meals and snacks. Below are some of the reasons given for not consuming more fruits and vegetables:
- 49% replied that they needed ideas about new ways to prepare fruits and vegetables.
- 22% replied that vegetables were time consuming to purchase and prepare.
- 14% remarked that fruits are time consuming to purchase and prepare.
Making homemade juice with a juicer is an answer to the ongoing dilemma of how to get people to consume more of these foods. Juicing solves all of the obstacles cited above. Juicing is fast and easy for the preparer and provides excellent nutrition. It takes very little time to buy fresh produce, bring it home and prepare it. The hard work is performed by the juicer. Juicing is as simple as:
- Washing and cleaning the produce
- Depending on the size of the juicer’s feeding tube or chute, cutting the produce into smaller pieces
- Lining the pulp catcher or container, that the pulp is ejected into, with a plastic baggie. This will make it simple to throw out, or compost the pulp, while keeping the pulp catcher clean and eliminating one item for clean up.
- After juicing, detaching the juicer parts and thoroughly cleaning them.
- Note, it is best, nutritionally and taste wise, to drink fresh homemade juice right away.
