When juicing, many people like to put whole fruits and vegetables into the juicer, including seeds, stems and leaves. This maximizes the amount of nutrients that go into the juice as the stems and leaves can be a great source of nutrition. However, there are several fruits and vegetables that have mildly toxic seeds, pits, stems or leaves. Obviously, do not juice these mildly toxic produce parts. Symptoms of mild poisoning can include headaches, dizziness, vomiting, allergic reactions, rashes and stomach ailments.
Below is a list of mildly toxic produce parts. Do not juice these items:
- Apple seeds
- Apricot pits
- Avocado seeds, leaves and stems
- Cactus
- Carrot greens
- Cherry pits and leaves
- Kidney beans – raw
- Lima beans – raw
- Peach pits and leaves
- Plum pits and leaves
- Potato – all green parts
- Rhubarb leaves
- Tomato leaves, stems and stalks – the entire plant except the ripe fruit
